Water Policy Fellowships

   Korice Moir

Korice Moir recently completed a Master in Environmental Studies at York University where she focused on water policy and the links between production, consumption, and virtual water use. During her degree, she also explored the theory and practice of integrated water resources management in Mongolia, as part of an interdisciplinary research team at York's Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability, and completed a cooperative placement with the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development in Ottawa.

In what feels like another life, Korice obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, worked in accounting and administrative roles in Canada's Arctic, Atlantic and Prairie regions, and participated in an international exchange in Eastern Europe. Outside of work, she enjoys diving into volunteer work with various non-profit organizations dedicated to the art and science of dissecting water-related issues and promoting concrete solutions.

Fellowship Project Description

In partnership with the POLIS Project on Ecological Governance, her fellowship project with the Gordon Foundation aims to explore the “hidden flows” behind Ontario’s food and beverage industry. She plans to investigate alternative strategies designed to promote reductions in industrial water demand, improve monitoring and access to water use information, and ultimately advance the soft path for water within manufacturing.

By integrating water footprint and virtual water concepts into soft path thinking, the collaborative efforts of this project seek to put forward water policy recommendations with the potential to contribute to a new water conservation ethic in production.
