Water Policy Fellowships
Shelly Lobay-Minarik
Shelly completed her LLB at the University of Calgary in Alberta. Following a period of employment with the City of Calgary’s legal department (Planning and Land Division), Shelly abandoned her legal career in favour of a second career – motherhood. She spent several years in Seattle, Washington and Eastern Europe during this time. Shelly returned to her home in the Canadian Rockies in 2003.
Shelly’s now working on her LLM at the University of Calgary. Her thesis addresses the legal implications of climate change impacts on existing trans-boundary water apportionment agreements. Her Water Policy Fellowship is being done in partnership with the Bow RiverKeeper. This NGO monitors the Bow River which forms part of the larger, inter-provincial South Saskatchewan River Basin (SSRB). The Fellowship project seeks to link key decision-makers located in this watershed with contemporary research respecting fresh-water management issues, demand-side management, and sustainable water management.
