Gaylene acquired her MBA in marketing research from the University of Calgary and after a number of years of experience in business, she returned to the University of Alberta and is working towards a PhD in Environmental Sociology. Areas of research interest include governance, fresh water regulation, public policy, public health, and women’s issues.

Fellowship Project Description

Her fellowship research focuses on public perceptions of water management in Alberta and the methods that can be used to manage Alberta’s water resources. This investigation in focusing on the Battle River Watershed (South and Southeast of Edmonton, Alberta) examining policy instruments such as market-based –instruments (MBI), command and control regulations, education, and financial support incentives. The research focuses on utilizing deliberative democracy tools to encourage public participation in these discussions.
