Holly Mackenzie-Stringer
Bio
Holly Mackenzie-Stringer is a Dene from the Tlîchô nation of the North Slave region. Holly Mackenzie-Stringer is currently working as an intern with the Government of the Northwest Territories as an Intergovernmental Relations Analyst. Prior to her current position, Holly has held various positions with the Workers’ Safety & Compensation Commission and most recently has worked with the Corporate & Community Affairs department within BHP Billiton Diamonds Canada Inc. Holly has just recently completed her Business Administration Diploma from Aurora College and is pursuing her business degree on a part-time basis.
Community
Holly has lived in Yellowknife, NT for most of her
life and has spent a significant amount of her childhood in the community
of Behchoko. Holly knows that Yellowknife is a vibrant and caring community
of diverse cultures that has undergone vast changes in the last 15 years,
and she would like to be a part of any positive changes especially in
regard to education and the advancement of aboriginal female leaders.
Issue of Investigation
As a recipient of the Jane Glassco Arctic Voices Fellowship, Holly will examine how to develop and nurture Aboriginal women in more leadership roles and how to increase participation of women in all levels of decision making within aboriginal governance. She will also examine the barriers that exist for young women taking on leadership roles as chiefs and in elected positions of governance.
