Alberta Youth in the World
This project is about creating awareness, analysis and action by youth, on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were adopted in September 2000. Activities focus on Canada's role in achieving the MDG's, and the tangible ways youth can understand and take action on critical international issues. Youth age 14-24 will engage in international and national policy dialogue and leadership training focussed on community events related to the MDG's. The Alberta Youth in the World project prioritizes the engagement of rural youth and communities with international development and global issues.

Leadership training for rural youth age 14-24 was held in Bashaw, a community of 800 people in Central Alberta on January 27-28, 2007. The main focus of the training weekend was on increasing awareness of the MDGs and increasing leadership capacity amongst rural youth.
Youth Action Projects took place in March 2007 and the purpose of them was to create sustained action and leadership capacity on global issues within rural communities. Youth participants completed an event related to one of the eight MDGs. Four action events have been planned over the course of the project.

Alberta Youth in the World symposium for 100 youth was held on March 30, 2007. The symposium addressed issues related to the MDGs and the important contribution that youth can make as active and engaged citizens. In addition to this a resource guide for teachers will be completed and disseminated in May 2007.
